BC Election Update April 27: How Much Will They Cost You

Author: Mark Milke 2001/04/26
The CTF is tracking spending announcements and promises by the two main parties in the BC election. The taxpayer $ clock started in November 2000. Some promises are not yet estimated and the following should be looked at as conservative.

For example - health care spending - which both parties have promised to increase - is estimated to grow at 3.25 percent annually, even though the rate of increase over the last four years has averaged 6.5 percent.

The Liberals have contacted the Federation and provided a list of promises that they claim will also save money. New Democrats are invited to contact the Federation and also provide a similar list.

As of April 27, it appears the NDP announcements/promises clock in at $6.45 billion - or $3,398 per BC taxpayer.

As of April 27, it appears the Liberal announcements/promises clock in at $3.04 billion - or $1,600 per BC taxpayer.
